Kids with Autism in Georgia have an opportunity this year to participate in family-favorite Easter activities thanks to a partnerships between, 1201 Café, and Hearts 2 Hugs.

This is a special invite for families and children on the Autism spectrum, as well as children with other developmental or cognitive disabilities who may benefit from enjoying this event.

WOULD YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE BENEFIT FROM HAVING A QUIETER EXPERIENCE AT THE TELLUS SCIENCE MUSEUM? 

The Tellus Sensory Friendly Mornings include:

  • Designated “Quiet Spaces” located at the back of the theatre
  • Sound reduction where possible, like turning off hand dryers throughout the museum and delaying loud tasks, i.e. vacuuming or mowing
  • Specialized equipment that can be checked out from the front desk (limited quantities available):
  • Weighted lap pads
  • Wheelchairs
  • Sunglasses for overstimulating lights
  • Noise reduction earmuffs for overstimulating sounds
  • Name tags with contact information for children (provided upon request)
  • Waterproof aprons and gloves are available in the gem panning and fossil dig area
  • Additional directional signage will be throughout the museum
  • Strollers are allowed throughout the museum

Registered guests can enjoy a FREE planetarium experience. During this time, the planetarium will have an open-door policy while showing a 5-minute looping video of beautiful space images accompanied by soft classical music in an ambient light environment.

A “Quiet Space” is available during any visit to the museum. This room has been designed to provide a soothing environment. Please ask a staff member or a security guard for access. 

Space is limited. Registration is recommended. Museum opens to the general public at 10 AM.

From 2 PM to 5 PM on the last Tuesday of every month, the Southern Museum is transformed into a sensory-friendly environment.

We welcome visitors with Autism Spectrum Disorder, sensory processing issues or special needs to explore the Museum at their own pace.

As a prestigious Smithsonian Affiliations member, the Southern Museum is an inclusive institution devoted to history and education.

The Museum provides a quality experience that fosters conversation about the strategic and economic use of railroads during and after the Civil War. We seek to inspire and enrich people of all ages and backgrounds through knowledge-sharing and open dialogue.

All ages are welcome. Included with general admission and free for members!
